Edo State was created on 27th August, 1991 during the regime of former President Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida with the capital city at Benin City. It shares boundaries with Delta, Ondo, and Kogi State of Nigeria. The current governor is H.E. Mr. Godwin Inogheghase Obaseki who was elected 29th May 2019 under the All Progressive Congress (APC) together with his deputy Rt. Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu. Rt. Hon. Francis Okiye is the Honorable Speaker of the State House of Assembly
