Abia State was created on 27th August, 1991 during the regime of former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida with the capital at Umuahia. It shares boundaries with Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Crossriver, Akwaibom and Rivers States of Nigeria. The current Governor is H.E. Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu who was re-elected for 2nd term of four years in 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) together with his deputy Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu. Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji is the Honorable Speaker of the House of Assembly.
