Ebonyi State was created on 1st October, 1996 during the regime of former President Late Gen. Sani Abacha with the capital city at Abakaliki. It shares boundaries with Crossriver, Abia, Enugu, and Benue States of Nigeria. The current Govornor is H.E. Umahi David Nweze who was re-elected 29th May, 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) together with his deputy Eric Kelechi Igwe. Although he later decamped to All Progressive Congress (APC) in November 2020. Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru is the Honorable Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
