Benue state was created on 3rd February, 1976 during the regime of former president Late General Muritala Mohammed with the capital at Markurdi. It shares boundaries with Taraba, Crossriver, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kogi, and Nasarawa State of Nigeria. The current Governor is H.E. Samuel Ortom who was re-elected 29th May, 2019 under the All Progressive Congress (APC) together with his deputy H.E. Ahounu Benson. Rt. Hon. Terhemen Tarzoor is the Honourable Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
