Akwaibom State was created on 23rd September, 1987 during the regime of former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida with the capital at Uyo. It shares boundaries with Crossriver, Rivers and Abia State of Nigeria. The current Governor is H.E Hon. Udom Emmanuel who was elected on 29th May, 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) together with his deputy Hon. Moses Ekpo. Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok A. Luke is the Honorable Speaker of the House of Assembly
