Kwara State was created on 27 May, 1967 during the regime of former president Gen. General Yakubu Gowon with its capital at Illorin. It shares boundaries with Niger, Oyo, Osun, Kogi and Ekiti State. The current governor is H. E. Hon. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq who was elected under the All Progressive Congress together with his deputy Hon. Kayode Alabi. Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Saliu is the Honorable speaker of the State House of Assembly.
