Kogi State was created on 27 August, 1991 during the regime of former president Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida with its capital at Lokoja. It shares boundaries with Enugu,Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara, Niger and FCT. The current governor is H. E. Alhaji Yahaya Bello who was re-elected on 29th May, 2019 under the All Progressive Congress together with his deputy Hon. Edward Onoja. Hon. Matthew Kolawole is the Honorable Speaker of the House of Assembly.
