Crossriver State was created on on 3rd February, 1976 during the regime of former president General Muritala Mohammed with the capital at Calabar. It shares boundaries with Ebonyi, Abia, Akwaibom, and Benue States of Nigeria. The current Governor is H.E. Prof. Ayade Bendict who was re-elected 29th May, 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) together with his deputy Iyara Esu. The Governor H.E. Prof. Ayade in May 2021, decamped to All Progressive Congress (APC). Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonas Williams is the Honorable Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
