The Review Process
Each manuscript submitted to the Journal of Local Governments of Nigeria (JOURNALGON) must undergo the following editorial workflow during the course of the peer-review process.
Once a research and evaluation manuscript is submitted for publication, the manuscript undergoes the initial assessment by the Journal’s editorial office (coordinated by a delegated In-house Editor) resulting in either a rejection note or recommendation for a review. Once this is done, the manuscript is assigned to at least five members of the editorial board coordinated by an Associate Editor on the basis of subject expertise for review.
The Associate Editor receives the peer-review report and recommends any of the following: – Consider after many changes – Consider after few changes – Publish as is.
If the Journal In-house Editor recommends “Reject,” the authors are notified immediately with the information that their manuscript will no longer be considered for publication in the journal. In this case, the manuscript will not be subject to review. However, policy and practice articles and manuscripts may not go through the peer-reviewed process before consideration for publication.
If the Associate Editor recommends “Consider after many changes,” the authors are notified to prepare and submit an updated version of their manuscript with the necessary changes suggested by the reviewers. This might require new data to be collected or substantial revision of the text. The manuscript is then reassessed by one or more of the original reviewers before the Associate Editor makes a new recommendation.
If the Associate Editor recommends “Consider after few changes,” the authors are notified to prepare and submit a final copy of their manuscript with the required few changes suggested by the reviewers. Once the Editor is satisfied with the final manuscript, optionally having sought further advice from one or more of the reviewers, the Associate Editor can recommend “Publish”.
If the Associate Editor recommends “Publish as is,” the manuscript will undergo a final check by the journal’s editorial office in order to ensure that the manuscript and its review process adhere to the journal’s guidelines and policies. Once done, the authors will be notified of the manuscript’s acceptance
